Burundi: Businde Bourbon

Nestled in the highlands of Burundi's Kayanza province, this exceptional washed Bourbon coffee is produced at Businde Washing Station, operated by Matsitsi Trading. Founded in 2015 by Matsitsi Zuberi, the company is dedicated to producing outstanding specialty coffee while investing in sustainable processing practices and supporting local farming communities.

Businde partners with approximately 650 smallholder farmers who cultivate coffee at elevations between 1,650 and 1,800 meters above sea level. By paying premiums for high-quality cherry and offering above-average wages to its staff, Matsitsi Trading helps strengthen the local coffee economy while encouraging careful cultivation and harvesting.

Only the ripest cherries are selected before undergoing meticulous washed processing, including carefully controlled fermentation and approximately 20 days of drying on traditional African raised beds. The result is a clean, vibrant coffee that showcases the renowned quality of Burundi's Bourbon variety and the dedication of the producers who make it possible.
